Advanced Open Water Training Dives at Haigh Quarry
Five training dives over 2 days
Day 1: 10am – 4pm
Day 2: 8am – 4pm

Continue your scuba diving adventure with the Advanced Open Water Diving Class. This is the next step towards becoming a Master Scuba Diver, the highest non-professional rating a diver can achieve.

The heart of this class is DIVING! You will complete 5 dives for your Advanced Open Water Certification. You will also complete a Knowledge Review for each dive.

There are two core Adventure Dives that will boost your confidence as you build foundational skills.
• You will do a Deep Dive between 60-100 feet in which you experience thermoclines, visibility changes and the effects of nitrogen narcosis.
• On the Navigation Dive, you will become better at using your compass and recognizing natural landmarks. This will help you to be able to navigate during the dive as well as back to the dive boat or shore.

Then, you choose 3 additional dives from Advanced Open Water Diver program to complete your course. Scuba Systems offers the following options for the AOW Class at Haigh Quarry:
AWARE Fish ID, Digital Underwater Photographer, Diver Propulsion Vehicle (scooter), Drysuit Diver, Multilevel and Computer Diver, National Geographic Diver, Night Diver, Peak Performance Buoyancy, Search and Recovery, Underwater Naturalist, Underwater Videographer, Wreck Diver

Please note that you will need your own underwater still or video camera for the photography/videography dives.

Other options include Altitude Diver, Boat Diver, Drift Diver and Ice Diver. These dives are either not offered by Scuba Systems and/or at Haigh Quarry. If you join Scuba Systems on one of our terrific dive trips, you may be able to complete the Boat Diver and/or Drift Diver Adventure Dives for your AOW certification.

Prior to your Advanced Open Water training weekend:
• Purchase your class materials at Scuba Systems
• Get fitted for and reserve your rental gear at Scuba Systems (tanks, weights, wetsuit, BCD, Regulator/Computer, hood, gloves, etc) IN ADVANCE
• Pick up rental gear Friday prior to your training weekend. When you pick it up you will check it to make sure everything is there that should be, that your tanks are filled and the regulators and BCD work properly.
• Reserve a hotel room in the Kankakee area for Saturday night. We recommend that you stay overnight, as you will be tired, and can avoid the drive back and forth from Chicago. Those staying overnight typically enjoy dinner together at a local restaurant.
• Complete your Drysuit Diver Specialty if you would like to complete your Advanced Open Water Training Dives in a Drysuit. This approach is especially recommended if you will be completing your dives at Haigh Quarry in April or October.
• Complete the Deep Diver and Underwater Navigation reading and Knowledge Reviews
• Discuss which 3 additional Advanced Open Water Dives you will complete with a Scuba Systems instructor, and complete the reading and Knowledge Reviews for those dives

During your Training Weekend:
• We will review the knowledge reviews for your 2 Adventure Dives (deep dive and underwater navigation dive)
• We will complete your 2 Adventure Dives
• We will review the knowledge reviews for your 3 Advanced Open Water Dives
• We will complete your 3 Advanced Open Water Dives

By taking the Nitrox class in advance, you will be able to breathe Nitrox all weekend.

By doing the Drysuit Diver Specialty class in advance, you can do all your dives in a drysuit (way cool) and complete one extra dive and get your Advanced Open Water and Drysuit certification in one weekend.

You are that much closer to Master Scuba Diver.

Day 2 - Open Water Training Dive at Haigh Quarry

During your Training Weekend:

This second Drysuit Dive counts towards your Advanced Open Water Certification, and your Drysuit Diver Specialty Certification counts towards your Master Scuba Diver Certification!
